FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH OF JAMESTOWN, NY
was organized by Swedish immigrants in Jamestown in 1856. The first church was constructed in the 1860's at the corner of Center and Chandler Streets. Since that time, the congregation has seen many changes, including changes in membership and the replacement of the original wooden church with the current cathedral-like church that was completed in 1901 as part of a construction project that began in 1892. The adjoining Education Building and Chapel were constructed in the 1950s.
As part of our 150th Anniversary that was celebrated in 2006, many members of our congregation wrote articles about the History of First Lutheran Church. Some have been posted below. Enjoy this little walk through history. |
